EIL UK is a registered charity that specialises in increasing cultural awareness and understanding.

We are part of an international federation of partner organisations which since 1937 has been breaking down barriers to mutual understanding by bringing together people from different cultures.

Our range of programmes involves people of all ages from a variety of different communities. We have a track record of working with young people, including those who are disadvantaged, both nationally and internationally. We are currently expanding this area of work and in particular programmes which improve community cohesion and integration.

"We want to start by thanking EIL for their generous contribution to our stay in Thailand. We are 21 and 22 years of age, we tied the knott last August and are now volunteer workers helping a Christian charity called HANDS (Health and Nutritional Development Services) for fifteen months.

The charity works with displaced, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Thailand. They mainly work with hill tribe people, such as the Akha and Shan tribes.

Our passion over here is relationships – We love spending time with Thai people as they are caring, joyful and giving and they always challenge us to be better people.

New volunteering projects in China!

We are now able to offer new opportunities of volunteering in China, in the province of Si Chuan. You will be able to teach English in kinder gardens, primary, secondary and high schools and also to help in summer camps and centres for children with special needs.

The city of Mianyang, where the volunteering projects are going to take place, was seriously hit by an earthquake in 2008 that killed 90.000 people and destroyed many schools.

Volunteering there has therefore a special meaning, as it would help people to find new confidence and hope for their future.

Neil McCook is our current Leonardo intern in Madrid. Here is an extract from his thoughts about his time so far:

"..In my month here my work has varied a lot. I have had some fun days and some not so fun days. So far I have helped in the office with building the new database. My other work has seen me translating from Spanish to English (thank god for Google translator..). For the last week or so I have been working on a youth exchange and co-ordinating it. The exchange went well..."
