TEIL Award Criteria

  1. TEIL awards can only be made for programmes which directly benefit British men and women either overseas or in the UK. Please note: If you are applying for an award to travel from the UK to another country you will be asked to confirm that you are the holder of a UK passport.
  2. TEIL awards will only be made to a programme which includes a mix of cultures, an educational purpose and either a homestay or an element that ensures that the participant will mix with, and increase their understanding of, indigenous people and their family life. Please note: Applicants will be expected to provide an account of how they have benefited from the programme which can be used to promote the work of EIL in the local community and through EIL contacts.
  3. TEIL awards will normally only be awarded to programmes operated by EIL UK or FEIL operated programmes.
  4. TEIL awards will be awarded proportionate to the cost of the programme and to the resources of the individual applicant. Applicants who can show evidence of fundraising relating to the programme cost will be considered as priority.
  5. Applicants in receipt of an award for EIL programmes will agree to abide by the terms and conditions of EIL and the programme and to provide evidence of adequate insurance.

Award process

Awards will be considered on written application to the Awarding Panel of TEIL.

Money available for the awarding of grants will be decided at the start of the financial year. The amount available will be equal to the income of TEIL minus the management charge paid to EIL for the administration of TEIL and any operating costs incurred by TEIL as landlords of the two properties at 287 Worcester Road, Malvern.

The total amount to be awarded during a financial year will divided into 4 portions to be awarded throughout 4 periods of the year. Each quarterly amount available for the awarding of grants will take into account operating costs incurred during the previous quarter. The 4 periods will be

1. April, May and June:

2. July, August and September:

3. October, November and December:

4. January, February and March.

Once the money for a given period has been spent no further money will be available for awards until the following period.

Unspent money from one period can be rolled over to the following period.

Specific amounts of money will be awarded annually for specific individuals (i.e. reps, host families, schools etc) on application by a given date. If no suitable applicant is identified unspent monies after the given date will be allocated in the following periods.

Unspent monies at the end of the financial year will be rolled over for allocation in the following financial year, following the same process.

Awards made during one period can be put towards programmes in other periods of the year.

Once an award has been made to an individual no further awards will be made to that individual for additional expenses associated with the initial award application.

Awards will be payable to the organisation offering the programme and not to individuals, except in exceptional circumstances.

The Awarding Panel of TEIL can on occasions make exceptional awards by agreement of the panel, the individual and the organisation offering the programme.

The Award Panel of TEIL will consist of 4 individuals – 2 trustees / members of EIL and 2 members of the management team of EIL. The chair of Trustees for EIL and TEIL will have the final decision if deemed necessary by the awarding panel.
