Trustees
Mel Nock, OBE, B.A (Joint Hons. Wales) FIPD – Chair of Trustees
Mel has held a number of posts at senior level in both the private and public sectors, including Divisional Chairman with a major British engineering company and as a Regional Personnel Director/Assistant Regional Managing Director in the NHS. He is Vice Chair of the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and Chairman of the Governance, Finance and General Purposes Committee. Mel worked on a voluntary basis with Victim Support UK from the early 1990s to November 2009 in a number of capacities - Chairman of Victim Support Herefordshire and Worcestershire, National Trustee, Chair of Victim Support National Assembly, and Vice Chair of Victim Support Trading.
Mel Nock has been associated with EIL since 1999 when he was commissioned to undertake an organisational review of EIL. He became a Trustee in 2001 and Chairman in 2004.
Victor Allen - Vice Chair of Trustees
Victor was born in Reading and is the Managing Director and founder of Mirror Development and Training Ltd.
Victor has more than 20 years experience of working with young people and supporting teams in schools, companies and charities by using behavioural psychology techniques and MBTI assessments to bring out the best in individuals, groups and organisations.
Victor's interests include playing golf, watching Manchester United, country walks, village pubs, friends and cooking.
Victor became a Trustee of EIL in 2009.
Michelle Greenwald - Vice Chair of Trustees
Michelle trained as an historian and her first career was in building heritage conservation in Canada. History and historical architecture are still her first love. After moving to the UK she spent a couple of decades in senior management of voluntary organisations leading to a considerable interest in organisational management. She is now into what seems to be a third career in local government. She also has been a VSO Short Term Volunteer in East Africa working as a Strategic Planning Advisor.
Michelle became a trustee of EIL in 2005, following her work as Interim Chief Executive of HOST (Hosting for Overseas Students) which has a similar ethos and aspirations to those of EIL
Robert (Bob) L Begley - Honorary Treasurer
Bob was born in Airdrie, Scotland and now lives in Worcestershire. He is married with 2 children and 5 grand-children.
Before retirement Bob worked in the manufacturing industry and held finance directorships with Evans Medical and Evans Biologicals in Liverpool, and with Worcester Royal Porcelain.
Bob's interests are the Rotary Club, history, music and gardening.
Bob became a Trustee for EIL in 2009.
Allan Hodgson
Allan was born in Canada and holds dual citizenship with the UK.
Allan graduated from McGill University in Montreal and attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School. He also spent a year at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris.
Before retiring Allan was Chief Financial Officer and Director of Alcan Inc. (now Rio Tinto Alcan), a major multi-national in the aluminium business.
As well as being a Trustee for EIL UK, Allan is also a Trustee of World Learning, the parent organisation of the Experiment in International Living, USA.
Allan has always been an inveterate traveller and has visited some 75 countries as well as living for 4 years in India and most of a year in the Sultanate of Oman.
John Shaw
John worked as a chemical engineer for 40 years, initially in technology development and latterly in the management of capital investment projects. Much of his work took him overseas and he experienced and developed a love of many varied cultures. John’s interest in different cultures led to him joining ‘The Experiment’ in 1966 and becoming a Trustee in 1982. Over the years John has been with EIL he has worked as a local group treasurer and chairman, organised groups, hosted visitors and attended international meetings amongst other things. Apart from working with EIL John has been involved with various voluntary work organisations over the years.
Naz Ali
Naz is a qualified youth worker who gained a BA Hons at Leeds University. He has been involved in youth work for the past 21 years, specialising in International youth work. He has been responsible for over 40 international trips, expeditions and seminars. He is also a qualified European trainer on the European youth programme and sits on the board of the Regional Youth Work Unit for Yorkshire and Humber as their International Representative for Bradford. Naz has also been recruited as a new member for the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council. As well as his 21 years of youth work experience Naz has been a tutor at the University of Bradford. Naz's interests are cricket, squash, cycling and travelling.

Victoria joined EIL in September 2011
Simon Guest - Finance Officer
Simon was born in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Following education at Lacon Childe School and Ludlow Sixth Form College he joined a local accountancy practice where he worked for over 16 years. During this time he gained his AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) and ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) qualifications.
Simon joined EIL in 2003.
Lorraine Lockyer - Development and Training Manager
Lorraine was born in Bolton, Lancashire and spent three years as a child living in Spain. Lorraine graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in TESOL and Spanish and and Cert.Ed. PGCE (TESOL and Intercultural Learning)
Lorraine's work life has been varied with experience in business, banking and finance, youth work, and teaching and training.
Lorraine's interests include horse riding, teaching horse riding, training horses, cooking, language learning and meeting people from around the world.
Lorraine joined EIL in 2004 as the EVS Development and Training Officer.
