To pay or not to pay - that is the question.

Whether to pay-to-volunteer or volunteer-at-no-cost-to-yourself (or as the current debate puts it ‘paid or free volunteering’) – is a difficult and challenging debate and realistically there is no right or wrong answer – it is most definitely not ‘black and white.’

Some people want to travel abroad, to volunteer so they feel good about themselves – what is so wrong with that? Some people want to travel abroad to volunteer to give something back to society – again, what is so wrong with that?

Laura Mc Grawth from Dublin writes about her time volunteeringin Nigeria:

Oisin Brogan and Kidz Klub

Oisin Brogan from Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland spent 6 months volunteering in Nigeria and shares his story with us:

Oisin and class: Irish volunteer Oisin Brogan and the children from a local school in Nigeria where he volunteered.I suppose I should start from the start.

Sometime in late 2007, I decided 14 years will be enough. After this year, it was time for a break, time for a change. Time to do something else with my life.
