Hagia SophiaLucy, a recent volunteer to Turkey writes;

"We had the most amazing time....... Our host familes were so welcoming and generous. They were so kind and made it seem like we weren't a hassle! They had the most amazing house with a midblowing view of the Bosphorus river.

We went to our project which was extremely hectic as there were dozens of women waiting for their aid boxes. We were set to organise their store room - which was a task as it was so messy!

Unfortunatly we were not able to teach English as it was Ramadan and it was too difficult for the families to walk to the project in the heat.

High School Students celebrate Chinese New Year: Some of our High School students enjoyed a Chinese Buffet to celebrate the Chinese New Year.Some of our High School students recently celebrated Chinese New Year with a Chinese buffet. The students from Germany, Finland and Belgium are here on our High School Programme, living as a British teenager with a Host Family and attending the local Sixth Form. They joined their Local Rep for an international start to the Chinese New Year, which was "delicious" and enjoyed by all.

Yesterday, after I had scraped ice off my car to get to work, I received an email from Julie who went to a family in Spain on the Conversation Corps programme. (Conversation Corps volunteers live with a family to help them improve their conversational English.) This is what Julie had to say…..

‘I thought I'd let you know that I've been getting on fine. My family has been very welcoming, and I settled in quickly. In fact, things have been going so well that I plan to stay on beyond the two months originally agreed.

At EIL we are always on the look out for families who are interested in other people and other cultures to act as hosts for some of the people who want to travel to the UK to learn more about our wonderful culture and way of life. Families need to be able to welcome a stranger into their home as one of their family and make the visitor feel comfortable. If you think your family fits the bill or if you know a family who might please see the Host Family pages on our website for more information.
