Family Homestay
Available all year
By living within a host family you will gain an in-depth insight into our people, language and culture and make some new friends. We have placements available in many cities and in rural parts of Britain. We make sure that we have a good match between your host family and your unique profile and interests. During your homestay the family will provide you with accommodation and board (three meals every day). You will need to be prepared to travel and do things on your own as the family will have work and other commitments on their time, but every experience will be unique! EIL UK will offer advice and guidance about travelling, activities and different dates of travel to the UK.
I enjoy staying with a family because you become part of the family in a way and you get to know the British way of life. The families are very welcoming and make you feel at home right away… Staying with a family in another country is always mind-blowing and rewarding. You learn a lot about a different culture and you practice your English in a fun and entertaining way. If you spend lots of time with the family, talking over dinner, having tea, making breakfast… you’ll be rewarded with a unique experience.

Host families
Host families come from all walks of life and they could be a couple with or without children, a single person or an extended family. EIL works to select, screen and monitor host families to find a placement to best match your unique profile and interests.
Typical Activities
There are no typical activities as it will depend on the location of your homestay, your interests and the interests of your family. Your family will include you in their activities whenever possible but you must be prepared to travel and do things on your own as many families work or have other commitments on their time.
Travel Information
Booking your travel arrangements is your responsibility but EIL will help you to plan your journeys where necessary. Most placements will involve a bus or a train journey from the airport and you will be met on arrival in your homestay community, either by a member of your host family or by a local representative.
Dates and deadlines
The homestay programme in Britain is 1 – 8 weeks duration, and you may set you own start and end dates throughout the year. Applications should be received by EIL at least two months before your intended departure date to avoid disappointment.
