Brazil

Waterfall, National Park, BrazilVolunteer up to 15 hours each week in exchange for free room and board in Rio de Janeiro! Weekends are normally free to experience the culture by traveling around Brazil.

This is a great programme for people who want to experience life in Brazil and the Brazilian culture in-depth. The programme has a focus on cultural exchange and host families are not only excited to learn English but also love to share the characteristics of their country, culture and cuisine.

This is a high-energy and really fun position. We provide the materials; you provide the personality to liven up an informal conversation class! Find out first-hand how Brazilians live and work day-to-day. Sometimes there are opportunities to take part in activities. PLUS the locals can show you some hidden gems of Brazil.

Overview

The Need:  Volunteer 15 hours a week tutoring national park staff, as well as some local language schools.  The National Park has visitors from all over the world.  The park staff want to learn English or improve their speaking English through conversation.

The National Park was founded in 1961 and is one of the most visited parks in Brazil.  It is a tropical forest in an urban area.  With diverse flora and fauna and natural beauties such as waterfalls and caves, the park also shelters architectural buildings of great historical and artistic value.

Yesterday, after I had scraped ice off my car to get to work, I received an email from Julie who went to a family in Spain on the Conversation Corps programme. (Conversation Corps volunteers live with a family to help them improve their conversational English.) This is what Julie had to say…..

‘I thought I'd let you know that I've been getting on fine. My family has been very welcoming, and I settled in quickly. In fact, things have been going so well that I plan to stay on beyond the two months originally agreed.
