Help teach English in Vietnam by speaking with students for 15 hours each week as a Conversation Partner.
Volunteer 15 hours each week in Vietnam in exchange for free room and board. Conversation Partners are placed in either Ho Chi Min City or Hanoi. Weekends are usually free for Conversation Partners to explore local sites. You can even choose to spend one month in Ho Chi Minh City and one month in Hanoi.
This is a high-energy and really fun position. We provide the materials; you provide the personality to liven up an informal conversation class! Find out first-hand how Vietnamese live and work day-to-day. Sometimes there are opportunities to take part in activities. Plus, the locals can show you landmarks and hidden gems.
Overview
The Need
People with English as their first language to volunteer for 15 hours a week and help Vietnamese students with Conversational English.
Placements:
- You can choose to be placed in Ho Chi Minh City. Work with college-age students at the Saigon Tourist Hospitality College. Live at the school or in a nearby apartment and have meals with the students and teachers at the school. This is a one-month placement.
- Choose Hanoi for placement at a school that prepares students for overseas work in English-speaking countries. The school is operated by the Labour Overseas Deployment Corporation. You will work closely with English teachers. Students will be studying English, but need lots of help with conversation skills. In Hanoi, you will live in housing right at the school, as there are overseas teaching staff that live on site. This is a one-month placement.

Duties and Responsibilities include
- Sharing your language with the host organisation for at least 15 hours a week on a schedule agreed to with your host institution.
- Using our Bag of Tricks, provide creative, fun and informative conversation sessions.
- Timeliness in tutoring your group.
- Manage your own personal expenses (telephone bills, clothing, entertainment and spending money).

Project details
- Length: 1 or 2 months.
- Locations: Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Tutors can choose to locate in one city for a month and then go to the other for the second month. Transportation between the two sites is not included.
- Orientation: Provided in country by local staff, including half-day tour in your arrival city and basic language workshop. Additional language classes available at an extra cost.
- Accommodation: Private bedroom at the host site, or in an apartment or a local home- to be determined by the host institution. Transport is provided if you are not living on-site or within walking distance.
- Working hours: 15 hours per week to be scheduled by the host organisation.
- Availability: Flexible.
Requirements
- Fluent English i.e. you should have English as your first language.
- 18 years old and over.
- Good health.
- A good basic education e.g. Secondary School and above.

If available near your placement, assistance is provided in identifying suitable language lessons. The cost of language classes is not included in your programme fee.

What is included in the cost of the programme
- Personalised Volunteer Placement at a school in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, including all the coordination, in-person visits and communication necessary with the local organisation.
- Airport transfers.
- Your orientation by a local coordinator.
- A comfortable, safe place to live in Vietnam, your own private room, all of your meals, and transportation from the airport. If you do not live on-site, or within walking distance of your tutoring site, transportation will be provided.
- An experienced Programme Manager (and former volunteer) who will serve as your coordinator and liaison with our partner’s in-country staff in Vietnam.
- In-country basic language assistance.
- Professional, locally-based staff to provide orientation (including a half-day city tour in your arrival city), supervision and guidance throughout your stay.
- Extensive medical, accident and dental insurance along with emergency evacuation insurance.
- Important documents, including in-depth pre-departure packs, orientation information, and all in-country informational materials.
- A letter of invitation from your host school to facilitate your application for a visa to Vietnam.
