Ecuador Children's Hospital

HELP IN A CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN QUITO

VHealth care volunteerolunteer abroad at a children's hospital. Approximately 250 children from all regions of Ecuador come to this hospital.  Your participation at the Children's Hospital provides the hospital staff with much needed additional help.  It is also a great way to learn about the Ecuadorian health system, while sharing information with the medical and hospital staff there.  Spending time with the children can also improve your Spanish skills.

Quito is the second largest city and the capital of Ecuador. At 10,000 feet, it is breathtaking.  It is surrounded by mountains, forested hills and a valley.  There are three areas of Quito (South of Old Town, North of Old Town, and North of Quito). Old Town has been named a Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. Quito is 22 miles from the Equator and has two season: wet and dry.

As a volunteer it is possible to:

  • Spend time with the children: playing with them, as well as participating with "Doctor Clown Club";
  • Deliver medicines to the rooms;
  • Interview patients;
  • Administor injections to patients;
  • Assist doctors on minor surgeries;
  • Participate on medical brigades organised by the institution;
  • Assisting with specialised fields, when applicable and available, as well as night shifts in the hospital according to the patients' needs.
