• Make sure the project / programme that you are joining is right for you
• Read all the information and ask any questions you need to be sure you understand what is involved and what will be expected of you
• Reasearch the country you are going to, to be sure you know about the culture, customs and way of life.
• Make sure that you have adequate and appropriate travel insurance
• Don't pack too much - you may have to carry it!
• Don't take valuables - or if you do - remember they could get lost or damaged.
• Don't rely on there being mobile phone signal or internet at your destination
• Leave a list of contact numbers and copies of important documents with someone at home who knows your travel plans.
• Keep a list of emergency contact numbers and copies of important documents with you while travelling. Ideally keep these seperatly to the original documents.
• Make sure you have access to enough money - and access to emergency funds should a problem arise.
• While overseas, take care of yourself and enjoy the experience!
