Germany

Seanai outside the Hamburg city hall: A photo of Seanai, an Irish student who spent several months going to school in Germany and living with a German family. This is a photo of Seanai outside the Hamburg city hall. With 82 million people Germany boasts the largest population of all members states of the EU.

Among their achievements, the German population can count the invention of the printing press, the automobile, aspirin and the more modern invention of MP3 technology.

Germany is also the birthplace of some of the most famous names in history including Albert Einstein, Karl Marx and Beethoven.

It will be no surprise then that a visit to Germany comes highly recommended and with this in mind Experiment Germany, in partnership with EIL UK, are offering the International High School programme to Germany.

Overview

Students taking part in the German High School Programme can choose to participate for 2 months up to a full academic year. During their time in Germany they will attend High School and live with a host family.

As part of the programme students will be expected to attend an orientation seminar, a mid-term seminar (for full-year participants) and an end-of-year seminar (for full and half-year participants).

The programme fee will include host family accommodation, an administration fee and health, accident and third-party liability insurance, as well as transfer from the airport upon arrival to the seminar location and on to the host family and at the end of the programme transfer from the host family to the airport.

School

The purpose of this scholarship is to allow students to experience both the German culture and school system and as such participants must attend school for the duration of their trip. The host family will enrol the student at the local school who, upon receipt of the relevant educational certificates will place the student in the appropriate classes.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Germany is provided by a host family. Host families are located across Germany and provide a variety of different family dynamics.

Unfortunately special requests i.e. location or family size cannot always be accommodated.

Host families accept students as temporary family members and are willing to share their home, time and hospitality to allow those taking part in the High School Programme to experience German culture. Some hosts families may have children who attend the same high school as the participant, however this is not guaranteed.
