Meet the Team

Katherine Davis – Chief Executive

Katherine joined EIL in April 2016, bringing with her experience of Chief Executive roles for regional and national charities and an executive management role for a large public-sector regulator. Having enjoyed several homestays in the USA, France and Belgium, Katherine has also travelled, studied and worked overseas, all of which developed her passion for helping others access opportunities for intercultural learning.

Karen Morris – Senior Programme Manager

Karen has extensive experience in developing and managing EIL UK programmes from conception through delivery to evaluation. As Senior Programme Manager, Karen leads on EIL’s Cultural Group programmes, Volunteer and Internship Programmes, Fair Play (Sports) programmes and manages cultural awareness training for UK and international volunteers on the EU’s European Solidarity Corps (ESC). Karen has also represented EIL at meetings overseas.

Charlotte Fereday – Manager Study Abroad

Charlotte manages and runs EIL UK’s Study Abroad Programmes including our High School (Academic Year) Programme and Short Study programmes. A trained TEFL teacher, Charlotte has lived and worked abroad in Spain and experienced homestays in countries as diverse as Russia and India.

Linda Hellyer –  Manager Homestays

We welcomed Linda to the EIL team in 2019. As a previous (and current) host and Regional Organiser (RO) for the HOST UK programme, Linda brings first-hand experience to her role in leading the team working on Homestays. As part of her role, Linda supports EIL’s network of volunteer RO’s and university staff working in international student offices across the UK.

Maheen Mufti – Data Coordinator

We welcomed Maheen to the EIL in the summer of 2020.  Her enthusiasm and experience of programme organisation and administration, including digital systems, is invaluable. As our Data Coordinator, Maheen leads on data compliance, database and reporting. Maheen also volunteers her time as a Regional Organiser on our HOST UK programme.

Calvin Hewitt – Volunteers Manager

Calvin joined the EIL team in 2023 having spent seventeen years working in the tourism and heritage sector. This included roles at the National Trust, English Heritage and managing volunteer staff at Shakespeare’s Birthplace. From 2017 Calvin was the Senior Tour Experience Ambassador at a Herefordshire gin distillery and was responsible for delivering, monitoring and improving the distillery tour and making it the highest ranked tourist attraction on TripAdvisor in Herefordshire. At EIL Calvin leads on volunteer recruitment, retention and engagement.

Basia Ligas – Communications and Development Manager

Basia joined EIL UK in May 2023 following her previous roles as a community engagement officer, working with the local authorities in Worcestershire, as well as a trainer in the international youth projects. As our new Communications and Development Manager, Basia will be building on her expertise in the fields of non-formal education, intercultural learning, international migration and project management. She also brings into the role a great deal of personal experiences gained during her long-term volunteering project in Skopje (Republic of North Macedonia), work placement in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and a number of short-term activities conducted in over 20 different countries worldwide.

Margaret Matthews – Support Volunteer

Margaret has supported EIL since the 1980’s in a variety of roles. At present, Margaret volunteers to help our Records Officer and Programme Managers with a variety of data entry and administrative tasks. Margaret’s experience of intercultural education includes a Homestay in Ecuador.

Our post-Covid recovery is under-way and we are recruiting to fill vacancies and new posts. At present we are recruiting the following roles:

Records Officer (part time and flexible hours)

This post will suit a highly organised person who enjoys a varied role at the heart of an organisation. This is an interesting and varied role that involves accurate record keeping for the charity alongside developing the charity’s fascinating archive of activities that stretches back more than 80 years.

We are looking to recruit more hosts across the UK, especially in Worcestershire and Cardiff. For an informal chat to find out more about hosting with EIL, email Calvin at or telephone the EIL office on 01684 562577.
