Meet the Team


 

Katherine Davis – Chief Executive

Katherine joined EIL in April 2016, bringing with her experience of Chief Executive roles for regional and national charities and an executive management role for a large public-sector regulator. Having enjoyed several homestays in the USA, France and Belgium, Katherine has also travelled, studied and worked overseas, all of which have developed her passion for helping others access opportunities to immerse themselves in other cultures.

Caith Dye – Finance Officer

Caith arrived at EIL in the summer of 2023, bringing to the role of Finance Officer her in-depth  experience of managing company and charity finances for organisations in Herefordshire. Caith leads on EIL’s financial records and reporting and her travels have included stays with family living and working overseas.

Karen Morris – Senior Programme Manager

After starting her career in the travel industry, Karen has worked for EIL for over 20 years and developed extensive experience in managing intercultural exchange programmes from conception through to delivery and evaluation. As EIL’s Senior Programme Manager, Karen leads the Programme Team’s delivery of high quality Homestay, Cultural Group, Volunteering and Cultural Awareness programmes for both ‘inbound’ international and ‘outbound’ UK participants. Karen has also represented EIL at meetings overseas.

Charlotte Fereday – Study Abroad Manager

Charlotte manages and runs EIL UK’s Study Abroad Programmes including our School Cultural Exchanges (3-6 months) and EIL’s School Cultural Immersions (2-4 weeks). Having previously worked with young people in educational settings and being a trained TEFL teacher, Charlotte continues to work hard to address student needs. Her experience in education and youth is appreciated by EIL’s high school and college partners. Charlotte lived and worked abroad in Spain and enjoyed her own homestay experiences in countries as diverse as Russia and India. She has experience of international host siblings as her family have been hosting students since she was a teenager. Now she also welcomes international students into her own home.

Maheen Mufti – Programme Coordinator

We welcomed Maheen to EIL in the summer of 2020.  Her enthusiasm and experience of programme organisation and administration, including digital systems, is invaluable. Maheen provides programme support and coordination for EIL’s Homestay programmes, including HOST UK. Maheen is also one of our most active Regional Organisers and, in her spare time, volunteers to match international university students studying at British universities with volunteer hosts.

Calvin Hewitt – Volunteers Manager

Calvin joined the EIL team in 2023 having spent seventeen years working in the tourism and heritage sector. This included roles at the National Trust, English Heritage and managing volunteer staff at Shakespeare’s Birthplace. From 2017 Calvin was the Senior Tour Experience Ambassador at a Herefordshire gin distillery and was responsible for delivering, monitoring and improving the distillery tour and making it the highest ranked tourist attraction on TripAdvisor in Herefordshire. At EIL Calvin leads on volunteer recruitment, retention and engagement.

Basia Ligas – Communications and Development Manager

EIL welcomed Basia in May 2023. Her previous roles combined working with local authorities in Worcestershire as a community engagement officer with training for international youth projects. As EIL’s Communications and Development Manager, Basia will be building on her expertise in the fields of non-formal education, intercultural learning, international migration and project management. She also brings to EIL a great deal of personal experiences gained during her long-term volunteering project in Skopje (Republic of North Macedonia), work placement in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and a number of short-term activities conducted in over 20 different countries worldwide.

Margaret Matthews – Support Volunteer

Margaret has supported EIL since the 1980’s in a variety of roles. At present she supports Programme Managers by assisting them with administrative tasks such as preparing for participant arrivals. Margaret’s experience of intercultural exchanges includes a Homestay in Ecuador which she describes as one of the best experiences of her life.

Office Administrator (part time and flexible hours)

This post will suit a highly organised person who enjoys a varied role at the heart of an organisation. This is an interesting and varied role that involves a range of administrative tasks that keep our office running and accurate record keeping for the charity.

Hosts

We are looking to recruit more hosts across the UK, particularly in and around Worcestershire, Bath, Bristol, Southport and Cardiff.
