A Heartwarming Embrace in a Foreign Land
The HOST UK visit with Allan in Aberdeen was first arranged as a Festive Stay in 2023 but could not go ahead due to a sudden illness. Fortunately, the host and his guest, Syed from the University of the West of Scotland, managed to agree on an alternative date a few months later. Though no longer Festive, the visit was certainly still a great success and left the host and his visitor with some precious memories.
“He was so interesting, telling me all about his homeland of Pakistan,” says Allan, “his education, his upbringing and his family traditions. It was amazing he found the Sunday morning church service most enjoyable, experiencing lots of similarities. Syed also repaired an ongoing computer problem I had, and this was achieved in minutes. He was such an eloquent, educated and interesting person.”

Our days together unfolded like a symphony of warmth and camaraderie. From attending a thrilling football match between Aberdeen and Dundee, where even in a draw, the spirit of the game resonated deeply, to sharing laughter and stories over dinner, the warmth of their hospitality was palpable.
Sunday brought the tranquillity of a church service, where gentle words and the melodies of Allan’s piano filled me with a profound sense of peace. This experience, filled with moments of kindness and connection, is truly priceless to me.
